The 29th Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo Opens Today
The 29th Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo, organised by the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA), commenced today (8 July) at Hall 3G of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This two-day event provides a one-stop-shop for students, graduates, and job seekers to connect with over 1,000 reputable educational institutes and employers, offering them information on further study, career planning, and job opportunities to help them realise their dreams.
The opening ceremony was held this morning, and officiating guests included Mr Chris Sun, Secretary for Labour and Welfare; Mr Wong Kwok Hing, Commissioner of Correctional Services; Mr Andy Yeung Yan Kin, Director of Fire Services; Ms May Chan, Commissioner for Labour; Dr Allen Shi, President of the CMA; Mr Ivan Sze, Vice President of the CMA and Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Limited; The Hon Jimmy Ng, Legislative Council Member representing Industrial (Second), and Dr Wingco Lo, Executive Vice President of the CMA.
Dr Allen Shi, President of the CMA, highlighted the significance of talent in Hong Kong’s economic transformation and developmental growth. He said, “While the SAR government is striving to attract global talent across various industries, it is equally important to cultivate domestic talent with the right skill sets. The expo serves as a platform to provide all the necessary information and detailed tips to help young people and workers make appropriate choices in their further education, boost their capabilities, and thrive.”
The expo features the “Local Education Zone” and the “Overseas and Mainland China Education Zone,” bringing together colleges, educational institutions, and education consultants from 24 countries and regions. It offers information not only on traditional popular study destinations but also study options in the Mainland, helping young people understand the opportunities, particularly in the GBA, and become more integrated into the overall development of the nation.
In recent years, many employers have faced talent shortages and recruitment challenges. The “Careers Square” theme zone draws more than 40 high-quality enterprises, institutions, and disciplinary forces, offering over 2,000 job vacancies, some of which provide on-site interviews. This is also an opportunity for young people to gain insight into the development prospects of various industries and the skills required.
At the expo, visitors can participate in more than 40 seminars covering topics such as articulation pathways of universities in the Mainland and other popular destinations, strategies for JUPAS selection, introductions to popular professional programs, career opportunities in the Greater Bay Area, and an introduction to the Holland Code job aptitude test.
Today’s opening ceremony was also graced by Mr Samuel Yung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority; Mr Tony Tai, Chairman of Vocational Training Council; Mr Tai Chi Yuen, Deputy Director of Immigration (Enforcement, Systems and Management); Ms Tam So Ying, Assistant Commissioner of Customs & Excise (Administration and Human Resource Development); representatives from supporting organisations and also CMA office-bearers, including Dr Edward Chan, Mr Dennis Ng, Dr Ma Kai Yum and Mr Jackson Leung, Vice Presidents of the CMA; and Mr Ralph Chow, CEO of the CMA.
The Expo is free to attend and will be open from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm.
