CMA Recognises Exemplary ESG Practices at
Inaugural Hong Kong ESG Awards
Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) is not only crucial to building a sustainable future but also a key factor in enhancing the competitiveness of the business community. The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA) proudly launched the inaugural “Hong Kong ESG Awards” to acknowledge and celebrate exceptional ESG practices by companies and organisations in Hong Kong, and to inspire local businesses to accelerate their transformation and embrace sustainable practices. The dazzling awards ceremony took place today (26 September) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, graced by the presence of guest-of-honor Mr Cheung Kwok Kwan, Deputy Secretary for Justice, as well as award presenter Dr Bernard Chan, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development. Representatives from 15 winning companies attended the event and were presented with their well-deserved awards.
CMA has been unwavering in its commitment to supporting businesses in addressing climate change risks. In addition to assisting the business community in implementing green production and strengthening carbon management in the supply chain, CMA launched the “ESG+ Programme” last year. This initiative encourages industry players to sign the “ESG Pledge” and make commitments to sustainable development. Through various support services provided by the association, participating companies have seen their ESG performance gradually enhanced. To date, more than 1,000 companies have collectively signed the pledge.
The “Hong Kong ESG Awards” is another significant initiative under the “ESG+ Programme” organised by CMA, with the Hong Kong Brand Development Council (BDC) as the co-organiser and HSBC and the CMA Industrial Development Foundation as sponsors. The event also enjoys the support of strategic partners, including CMA Testing, Hong Kong Productivity Council, Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency, and UNESCO Hong Kong Association .
The “Hong Kong ESG Awards” comprises three major award categories: the “ESG Grand Award,” the “ESG Award”, and the “Special Award for SME”. The judging panels evaluate the overall performance of participating companies in various aspects of ESG and assess the performance of their relevant projects to determine the winners of each award.
Dr Allen Shi, President of CMA, said, “In the face of increasingly complex and stringent international regulations and investor expectations, ESG is no longer just a competition to enhance competitiveness; it has become an elimination game! The award-winning companies of the ‘Hong Kong ESG Awards’ not only bear the social responsibility of mitigating climate change but also make significant contributions to social sustainability and inclusiveness, fully demonstrating their determination to become ESG pioneers. I hope they can serve as role models, encouraging the industry to collectively build a sustainable development ecosystem in Hong Kong and create long-term benefits for the economy, society, and ecological environment.”
