Dr Wingco Lo Elected as the 43rd President of the CMA
The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA) conducted its 43rd President Election today(24 November), electing Dr Wingco K W Lo, the current Executive Vice President, as the new President. Dr Lo will officially assume office on 1 January 2024.
As the CMA approaches its 90th anniversary, it stands as one of Hong Kong’s most esteemed business organisations. Dr Wingco Lo expressed his deep gratitude for being elected as the President and is committed to dedicating his efforts over the next three years to repay the support and trust of the CMA General Committee and members.
Dr Lo acknowledged that Hong Kong is embarking on a new journey, yet faces challenges due to the global economic downturn and a rapidly evolving economic and trade environment. He pledged to closely monitor the situation faced by industry members and actively contribute ideas to foster a more favorable business environment. He aims to lead the CMA in playing a greater role, providing innovative and diverse services, fully supporting enterprises in accelerating technological applications and sustainable development, navigating opportunities and challenges, and consolidating the industry’s strengths to build a more harmonious and stable society.
With an extensive background within the CMA, Dr Lo joined the General Committee in 2006, served as the Vice President since 2018, and was appointed as the Executive Vice President in 2021. He also holds positions as the School Supervisor of CMA Secondary School and Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Brand Development Council. As the Chairman of CMA Testing from 2018 to 2020, he led the center to achieve remarkable progress, establishing a new brand image and extending services to include technology commercialisation and green finance alongside its core testing and certification services.
Dr Wingco Lo graduated from University of Southern California. He currently serves as the Managing Director of Wing Li Group (International) Limited. Actively involved in various social affairs, Dr Lo has held notable public positions, including as a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the 12th Standing Committee of All China Youth Federation. He has also served as the Council Member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Council Member of the Vocational Training Council, Council Member of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Chairman of the Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Advisory Committee, Permanent Honorary Chairman of The Y. Elites Association, Council Member of the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification, Member of the HKSAR SME Development Fund Vetting Committee and Member of the Social Welfare Advisory Committee. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the country and society, Dr Lo was appointed as a Justice of the Peace (JP) in 2016 by the HKSAR Government and was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) in 2023.
The current President, Dr Allen Shi, will conclude his tenure on 31 December 2023, expressing sincere gratitude to the CMA General Committee and members for their unwavering support throughout his three-year term. Dr Shi commended Dr Wingco Lo for his youthfulness, vision, innovative thinking, and emphasis on youth development, believing that he will lead the CMA to new heights.
The term of the 43rd CMA President is set for three years, commencing from 1 January 2024, to 31 December 2026. The inauguration ceremony for the 43rd General Committee will take place on 1 February next year.
