CMA Launches a Series of Celebration Activities
To Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC and its 90th Anniversary
The year 2024 marks the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the 90th birthday of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA). To celebrate this special occasion, CMA is hosting a series of activities and programmes throughout the year to share the double happiness with the community.
CMA hosted a press conference today (20 June) to announce the details of more than 10 celebratory activities. In his speech, Dr Wingco Lo, President of CMA, emphasised that the association has always considered Hong Kong its home and prioritised the nation’s interests. He stated, “Over the years, CMA has been attentive to the global industrial and technological advancements, the national development and the shifting landscape of Hong Kong’s industry. We have constantly enhanced and expanded our services to assist the industry in adapting to various industrial transformations. In recent years, we have also ventured into a range of new services, including brand development, technology commercialisation, and sustainable development. These efforts aim to assist the businesses in embracing opportunities brought by the national development of new quality productive forces.”
Through this series of celebratory activities, Dr Lo hopes to engage the community in reviewing and celebrating the remarkable achievements of the country and CMA. By doing so, we can foster a collective pursuit of innovation, transformation, and development, unleashing a new and high-quality engine of economic growth.
CMA’s anniversary celebration activities span the entire year, from the beginning to the end, offering a highly diverse content. These include activities to explore business opportunities, community engagement, talent cultivation, charity events, and more. Among them, completion programmes include the sponsorship of the Correctional Services Department’s youth musical drama “Life Revitalisation GO Go Goal!” in January and a high-level forum on Hong Kong’s development of new quality productive forces held in April. Entering the second half of the year, more activities would be rolled out, including the following key projects:
CMA 90th Anniversary Cup
1 July marks the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). CMA will sponsor one of the horse racing on that day, sharing the joy of Hong Kong’s return to motherland and CMA’s birthday.
Anniversary Gala Dinner
CMA is organising the 75th Anniversary of the PRC cum the 90th Anniversary of the CMA Gala Dinner on 12 September at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel. We are honored to have Mr John Lee, the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, as the guest of honour, celebrate this momentous occasion with guests from cross-strait four regions.
Talent Cultivation
CMA and Vocational Training Council (VTC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in April to enhance cooperation in nurturing and recruiting high-caliber vocational and professional talents. As part of this cooperation, CMA and its subsidiary, CMA Testing, will jointly donate HK$4.5 million to the VTC to support the implementation of the Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme, enhancing the city’s talent pool for the development of new industrialisation.
Cocktail Reception with Consuls-General
CMA has always played a bridging role in assisting Hong Kong enterprises in expanding their business networks. In August, we will organise a cocktail reception to receive Consuls-General, Consuls, Counsellors of Economy and Commerce and representatives from foreign chambers of commerce to deepen the economic and trade cooperation between Hong Kong businesses and countries worldwide, especially those along the Belt and Road Initiative.
GBA International Forum
As this year marks the fifth anniversary of the promulgation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), CMA, jointly with Our Hong Kong Foundation, will organise an international forum on 6 November. The forum will brought together prominent figures from the Mainland, overseas and Hong Kong to explore the opportunities and roles of Hong Kong in the development of the GBA.
Celebration Activities at HKBPE
Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo (HKBPE) holds a prominent position as the flagship event of CMA and stands as one of the annual mega events in the city, attracting over a million visitors and tourists every year. This year, the HKBPE will feature an exhibition enabling attendees to revisit the history of CMA and the economic and social changes in Hong Kong. A large-scale birthday cake installation will also be set up for visitors to take memorable photos. Furthermore, CMA will allocate additional resources to the HKBPE Caring for the Community Programme to distribute cash vouchers to more underprivileged people, allowing them to enjoy fun of shopping at the HKBPE.
CMA 90th Anniversary Commemorative Issue
Empowering our nation through industrial and technological development is a core value of CMA. To commemorate its 90-year history and showcase its significant role in the development of both the country and Hong Kong’s economy and society, CMA is producing a commemorative issue featuring invaluable historical photographs from the past 90 years. This compilation aims to provide the public with a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of CMA’s development, while promoting the spirit and contributions of the association in loving the motherland and loving Hong Kong.
The celebration events also include the 90th Anniversary of CMA cum Industry Gala Dinner 2024 on 20 June, the 2nd Hong Kong ESG Awards Presentation Ceremony, a series of free Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) seminars, a women’s forum, and a youth short video creation competition with the theme of telling Hong Kong’s good stories. CMA also plans to send a high-level delegation to visit Beijing, hoping to brief the national leaders about the latest developments of Hong Kong’s manufacturing industry.
