The 30th Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo Opens Today
The 30th Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo, organised by the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA), commenced today (6 July) at Hall 5G of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This two-day event provides students, parents, job seekers, and working people with a one-stop-shop to connect with over 1,000 reputable educational institutes and employers from Hong Kong, Mainland, and other places of the world, offering them information on further study, on-job training, and job opportunities to help them equip themselves to realise their dreams.
The opening ceremony took place this morning with a distinguished list of guests in attendance. Among the notable attendees were Mr Chris Sun, Secretary for Labour and Welfare; Ms Louise Ho, Commissioner of Customs and Excise; Mr Benson Kwok, Director of Immigration; Mr Jeff Sze, Under Secretary for Education; Mr Andy Yeung, Director of Fire Services; Ms May Chan, Commissioner for Labour; Dr David Wong, Chairman of the Education Commission; Mr Samuel Yung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority; Mr Tony Tai, Chairman of the Vocational Training Council; Mr Ho Kwok Man, Assistant Commissioner (Human Resource) of Correctional Services; representatives from supporting organisations; as well as esteemed CMA office-bearers.
The CMA office-bearers who graced the occasion were Dr Wingco Lo, President of the CMA; Mr Ivan Sze, Vice President of the CMA and Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Limited; Dr Allen Shi, Permanent Honorary President of the CMA; The Hon Jimmy Ng, CMA Legislative Council Representative; Dr Ma Kai Yum, Executive Vice President of the CMA; Mr Simon Wong, Mr Dennis Ng, Mr Robert Lok, and Dr Ellis Wong, Vice Presidents of the CMA. Together, they officiated the ceremony.
Dr Wingco Lo stated that talent development is an important part of Hong Kong’s efforts to promote “new quality productive forces” and drive economic diversification; “Artificial intelligence is triggering a new wave of industrial reform worldwide, which has profound implications for the entire labour market. Students, job seekers, and working people can learn about the prospects of various industries and the latest requirements employers have for qualifications and skills at the exhibition, allowing them to prepare early and enhance their capabilities.”
Building on last year’s success, the expo continues to feature the “Overseas and Mainland China Education Zone” and the “Local Education Zone”, bringing together over a thousand colleges, educational institutions, and educational consultants from over 20 countries and regions from Hong Kong, Mainland, and around the world. With the participation of them, the expo provides diverse local and international education and further study information, as well as career planning strategies, offering comprehensive choices for students with different aspirations.
In addition to the education-themed zones, the expo features a “Careers Square” where over 50 government departments, and both public and private organisations gather to offer over 2,000 job vacancies and on-site interview opportunities. Visitors can take this opportunity to learn about the development and prospects of various industries and gain a deeper understanding of the evolving trends in the Hong Kong job market, thereby exploring future career paths.
At the expo, visitors can participate in more than 40 seminars covering topics such as articulation pathways of universities in the Mainland and other popular destinations, strategies for JUPAS selection, introductions to popular programmes, recruitment talks from disciplined services, and an introduction to the MBTI career aptitude test.
The expo is free to attend and will be open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.
