The CMA Hosts the 2024 Hong Kong ESG Awards cum ESG Pledge Presentation Ceremony

Green development is an indispensable component of the advancement of new quality productive forces in Hong Kong. To encourage Hong Kong enterprises, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to continuously enhance their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and to generate green productivity, the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (the CMA) hosted the 2024 Hong Kong ESG Awards cum ESG Pledge Presentation Ceremony today (7 October) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The event was graced by the presence of guest-of-honour Mr Michael Wong Wai Lun, Deputy Financial Secretary, as well as award presenters Dr Bernard Chan, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, and Mr Wong Chuen Fai, Commissioner for Climate Change of the Environment and Ecology Bureau. Representatives from 16 winning companies were presented with their well-deserved awards, while certificates were awarded to companies participating in the ESG Pledge this year.

As a staunch advocate of sustainable development, the CMA has introduced the ESG Pledge, the Hong Kong ESG Awards and a range of green services to assist industry players in embracing ESG practices to enhance their competitiveness. By the end of this year, the CMA will further step up its efforts by introducing a green platform, encouraging various sectors of society to utilise carbon credits for carbon offsetting, with the goal of propelling Hong Kong towards becoming a globally leading sustainable development city.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr Wingco Lo, President of the CMA, emphasised the trend of global regulatory bodies progressively increasing ESG disclosure requirements in recent years. Although these requirements currently target listed companies or large enterprises, SMEs as vital components of the business ecosystem, could take this opportunity to attract investors and customers by aligning with ESG standards.

President Lo stated, “This year’s award-winning companies include not only large corporations and institutions but also many SMEs. They have demonstrated foresight and vision across various ESG areas, effectively fulfilling the dual missions of creating both economic and social value, serving as exemplary models for the industry.”
