CMA Unveils 2025 Key Initiatives to Strengthen Hong Kong’s Roles as the “Eight Centres”
In line with the Chinese Government Work Report’s call to strengthen Hong Kong’s international engagement, the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (the CMA) is launching a series of strategic initiatives to enhance the city’s global competitiveness. These efforts focus on areas of international collaboration, technological innovation, and trade cooperation.
At today’s media luncheon, Dr Wingco Lo, President of the CMA, unveiled the association’s key projects for 2025. Addressing current economic challenges, Dr Lo stated: “While escalating trade tensions continue to disrupt the global economy, I am confident Hong Kong will successfully navigate these external challenges by maintaining our composure, embracing adaptability, and transforming pressures into innovation drivers—all while leveraging the nation’s steadfast support. The CMA remains fully committed to supporting our business community in developing new quality productive forces and capitalising on opportunities arising from geopolitical realignment to access broader markets.”
Deepening international ties and exploring new markets
Dr Lo further emphasised that this year’s Government Work Report, for the first time, explicitly calls on Hong Kong to deepen international exchanges and cooperation—reflecting the Central Government’s recognition of the city’s role and its heightened expectations for Hong Kong’s global presence. In response, the CMA has identified as key priority for the year to consolidate Hong Kong’s position as a strategic hub for international collaboration while expanding the global reach of its “Eight Centres” initiatives.
The CMA will host a high-level forum titled “Capitalising on Hong Kong’s Advantages, Deepening International Exchanges and Cooperation” on May 9. This event will bring together government officials, business leaders, industry experts and prominent scholars to explore Hong Kong’s unique strengths in global supply chain collaboration, technology and talent exchange, Belt and Road cooperation, and facilitating the overseas expansion of Mainland enterprises.
Additionally, the CMA will further strengthen ties with overseas and the Mainland business communities. Beyond its annual cocktail reception for consular corps in September, the CMA—recognising the growing importance of Middle Eastern markets amid US-triggered trade tensions—will organise a business delegation to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar in May. CMA Testing, the affiliated organisation of the CMA, has also introduced halal certification and training services to help Hong Kong businesses tap into the halal market. The CMA also plans to visit Beijing and other Mainland cities this year to explore domestic sales opportunities.
Developing Hong Kong as a multinational supply chain management centre
The CMA actively supports the HKSAR Government’s initiative to establish Hong Kong as a multinational supply chain management centre. In line with this goal, the association will co-organise the 2025 International Automotive & Supply Chain Expo (Hong Kong) at the AsiaWorld-Expo from 12 to 15 June. The expo will highlight innovations in China’s new energy vehicle industry and cutting-edge solutions in the low-altitude economy, underscoring Hong Kong’s role as a premium platform for the global expansion of Chinese technology.
Intellectual property (IP) trade represents one of Hong Kong’s core strengths under its “Eight Centres” positioning and plays a vital role in supply chain management. Given strong market demand for IP trade in biotechnology, the CMA will co-host the Hong Kong Global Cancer Investors IP Forum in late May. Organised in collaboration with the Hong Kong Coalition, the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and other partners, this event aims to position Hong Kong at the forefront of these emerging opportunities. Additionally, the CMA will organise the 16th Seminar on Cross-Straits and Hong Kong - Macao Economic and Trading Cooperation on June 6, with a focus to foster regional cooperation in AI and digital economy to enhance supply chain synergies.
The CMA’s key projects for 2025 also include the four flagship exhibitions, namely the 31st Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo, the 5th Hong Kong Brands and Products Shopping Festival, the 12th Hong Kong Food Carnival, and the 59th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo; the 3rd Hong Kong ESG Awards Presentation Ceremony, the CMA Sports Invitational Tournament, and the launch of a commemorative e-book celebrating the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong Brand Development Council.
Other office-bearers of the CMA attending the media luncheon included Mr the Hon Jimmy Ng, CMA Legislative Council Representative; Dr Ma Kai Yum, Executive Vice President of the CMA; Dr Allen Shi, Permanent Honorary President of the CMA; Professor Simon Wong, Mr Dennis Ng Kwok On, Mr Jackson Leung, Mr Calvin Chan, Mr Robert Lok, Mr Ivan Sze, Mr Albert Chuang and Dr Ellis Wong; Vice Presidents of the CMA; and Mr William Chui, Chief Executive Officer of the CMA.
