The 6th Hong Kong Food Carnival Press Conference

The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong will stage The 6th Hong Kong Food Carnival between 28 October and 5 November at Hong Kong Kwai Chung Sports Ground.  Carrying the theme “Healthy Eating and Living”, the 9-day carnival will bring the city into the gastronomic spotlight again. A Press Conference was held today and the details were announced.

CMA President Dr Eddy Li said, “I am really looking forward to the Hong Kong Food Carnival.  With over 260 stalls, it promises to offer a 9-day experience of delicious food, drinks, irresistible hot deals and tantalising entertainments. It will be so much fun, with its unique and joyful celebration of the great produce from Hong Kong.”

There will be four themed zones : “Health and Organic Zone”, “Leisure Food Zone”, “Catering Equipment Zone” and “Yummy Food Zone” selling a wide range of exciting produce from traditional or creative local cuisines, street food, processed food, kitchenware and appliances to lifestyle products, apparels and accessories. “We know that many food-loving visitors come to the carnival mainly for the diverse cuisines and quality on offer. The scale of our food zone (“Yummy Food Zone”) this year is the largest ever, with more than 50 food stalls,” said CMA Vice President cum Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Limited Dr Tony Tai. This year’s Carnival also showcases 9 food trucks which will make their appearance rotationally throughout the Carnival period.

The celebration of food will be brought across not just through the produce on offer. The “Yummy House Junior Chef Cooking Competition 2017” (「親子樂煮意@香港區」烹飪比賽—「美味棧新紮廚神挑戰賽2017」) is designed to engage kids and teenagers in the culinary arts. The little chefs will compete toward the final round to be held at the 52nd Hong Kong Products and Brands Expo. Experts and award-winning chefs will appear in live cooking demonstrations to showcase their techniques and to share cooking tips. Also, there will be many opportunities to get hands-on experiences with craft workshops and to be inspired and have tasting session at cooking demonstrations. Mini-drama by Commercial Radio Channel 1 DJs of long-running radio drama “18/F Block C” (18樓C座) and a concert of old songs by famous singers will also be featured to honour and celebrate the Hong Kong’s traditional and heritage food culture. In addition, a lucky draw giving out prizes worth about HK$540,000 will be held throughout the carnival period.

Looking for spooky-fun? Teenagers of 12-25 years old can bring a costume to join the “Halloween Costume Contest” on 31 October. Other Halloween festivities include a parade by dazzling entertainers, game booths and free Halloween makeup service.

The Carnival promotes green lifestyle. Hence, families can enjoy urban farming fun and gain basic know-how of agricultural practices at an “Organic-Themed Zone”, which also features a giant waterwheel, a fish pool, a photoshooting area and game booths.

This year, CMA’s “HKBPE Caring for the Community” has allocated fund to support several social initiatives to help low-income families, live-alone elderly and people with disabilities.  We will invite 900 underprivileged families to the Carnival and will give $300 cash coupons to each family to shop in the Carnival.
