The First-ever TIC Alliance Group in Hong Kong
Supports Global Market Access and Enhances Product Recognition

The seminar “Global Market Access through Local TIC Alliance”, organised by CMA Industrial Development Foundation Limited (CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories) with British Standard Institution (BSI), Instituto Falcão Bauer da Qualidade (IFBQ), Japan Quality Assurance Organisation (JQA), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), VDE Testing and Certification Institute (VDE), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and The Open University of Hong Kong, was held at The Open University of Hong Kong today (April 27). The enlightening seminar is part of an on-going effort of the Alliance Group to support the local industry on the road to global marketplace.
Mr. Alfred Sit, Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, The Government of the HKSAR; Dr Wingco Lo, Vice President of the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong (CMA) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CMA Industrial Development Foundation Limited delivered a speech to kick off the seminar. The event was also graced by Mr. W. W. Wong, Assistant Commissioner (Infrastructure and Quality Services) of Innovation and Technology Commission; Prof Albert Yu Cheung-hoi JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification; and Ms. Jane Lee, Secretary-General (Testing and Certification) of Innovation and Technology Commission.
CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories has a widespread network in the world. It has signed numerous strategic partnership agreements and memorandums with international institutions aimed at providing better support to local industry in getting access to global market and identifying joint initiatives in collaboration with partners. In April this year, CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories took another step forward when it formed an alliance with five world-class partners (BSI, IFBQ, JQA, UL and VDE). With geographical advantage and reputation of alliance members in their respective countries including UK, Brazil, Japan, US, Germany and Hong Kong, the Alliance Group enables clients to get a single point of access to a wide variety of markets and to gain products recognition in local and overseas in a easier, faster and lower cost way.
In his welcome remarks, Dr Wingco Lo said the idea of formulating the Alliance came from the vision of Hong Kong Council of Testing and Certification, i.e. developing Hong Kong into a testing and certification hub in the region by reinforcing the branding of “Tested in Hong Kong, Certified in Hong Kong”.
Dr Lo also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the speakers for their sharing of technical and legal requirements in different countries, including Japan, Europe, Latin Americas and emerging markets, and also for their useful advice and insight for companies who are exploring new business opportunities.
CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories is an accredited third-party laboratory, established by the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong in 1979. Since established, CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories has actively partnered with well-known institutions and associations around the world to provide high quality of inspection, testing and certification services to support industries to enter global market.
Recent collaborations include: Memorandum of understanding was signed with VDE Testing and Certification Institute (VDE) in 2002; Co-operation with Tawasul Testing & Inspection Services since 2012 to provide services in the United Arab Emirates & Middle East; Partnership with Korea Apparel Testing & Research Institute (KATRi) in Korea and Japan Labotech Corporation in Japan were developed since 2015 to further expand service in textiles products and toy testing.
